Content Management System (CMS) has started dominating static HTML sites. During 1998 to 2007, websites were created using HTML sites, CSS or Flash. But, because of the cheapness, fastness and easiness, CMS took over them. In order to create powerful websites, there are 3 main options- WordPress, Joomla and Drupal, which are considered as the kings for online CMS. They are incredible systems to create easy and quick websites. They are free to use as they are an opensource that can create a decent site with least time without much coding and programming skills. The following bases of their differentiation are as follows:-
Year of release and inventor: WordPress was released in 2003 by Matt Mullenwegg. Joomla was released in 2005 started from Mambo. Drupal was released in 2001 by Dries Buytaert.
• Nature: Wordpress is considered a best pick for beginners that functions well for small and medium sized websites and blogs. Joomla is considered best for commercial sites and requires less technical coding. It is less suitable for personal websites and blogs who does not need very complicated interface. Drupal is the hardest and also the most powerful among all of them.
• Description: WordPress is web software which helps to create a beautiful website or blog. It is both free in cost and powerful. It is used to create corporate websites. It has the best plugin database than any other CMS. Joomla is a popular CMS which helps to make powerful applications and website software because of its ease-of-use and extensibility. It is best used in social networking sites. Drupal is considered as an open-source CMS which is used by millions of users across the world. It will be best to expand your website in the future.
• Commonality: Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal are all free in cost, easier to access with free themes and they also have free plug-ins. All the 3 CMS are build PHP and are based on similar techniques. Caching is possible for all three of them. All the three have SEO feature from the base or via plug-ins which enables to do SEO i.e. Search Engine Optimization to create good URLs, page titles, Meta tags or XML sitemap.
• Usability: WordPress is very easy to use as it doesn’t have many options and the users do not get confused by the interface. It is the best option for the beginners. Joomla is an average user friendly as some parts of Joomla are inconsistent and require some kind of detailed info. Drupal is very extensive and easy to work with but this result in rise in obstacles that beginners usually face. Drupal is not recommended for small website owners or blog owners.
Therefore, for beginners and blog owners, WordPress is recommendable as it is an easier option for them as they are the first timer users. For the long run stable blog or website with zero errors Joomla is recommendable. Drupal is needed if you have a big blog or website which requires advanced functioning.
